This exclusive article was shared to SGFOLLOWSALL and if you wish to do business like them then beware of the consequences if caught by Singapore Authorities. The article below is from the businessman perspective.
I was 25 when I came to Singapore to work as a cook at a Indian muslim coffee shop. I was young and energetic guy who came to work for india muslim guy who become a Singaporean after marrying a local Singapore girl. My boss was fat, ugly and dark skinned and his local Singaporean Indian muslim wife was equally the same. Their 2 kids looked exactly like them as well but they were rich so all good. I realised that he was able to operate 2 food shops at 2 different places with different names while seating at home and he controlled all of it via CCTV cameras and via his handphone calls. I also learned that he placed the Indian muslim wording clearly on his both store fronts so he does not have to pay MUIS Halal food certificate fees and hiring of 2 lazy and pampered muslim employees.
While we toiled hard from 5.30am to 10pm with a break of 5 hours in between, while he sleep until late and then randomly showed up to check on us. We had to keep track of all the expenses and update him by 10.30pm strictly on the profit made for the day. The best seller in all his shops was prata and mee goreng so I ensured I learned the art of making them well.
I wanted a life like him and started to learn everything fast from making all types of foods and drinks. He was making a overall profit of around Singapore $10000 per month. I learned how to break the foreign worker hiring quota system by hiring phantom workers first as Singapore had made it hard to employ cheap labour from other countries. So my boss simply put CPF for his old relatives and keep signed payslips by them so as to ensure that MOM will not catch him for the offence. Anyway, it is a open secret that almost all the business owners use it in Singapore but MOM is weak and useless in enforcing the phantom workers offences because it will create more work for them. Apart from that he will also get some salary back from workers as he needed to quote higher salary for the workers to qualify for S-Pass and Employment pass which will not need him to pay any levy. This is also a common practice but not all workers will come out to complaint as the worker also will get implicated by MOM investigations based on what I hear.
I started using all the dating apps and even walked around my neighbourhood to check out local Indian girls. After 2 years of hardwork, I managed to woo a local Indian girl to like me. Even though she was not pretty and rich, she had the passport which I needed to marry for. I convinced her parents easily as they were desperate to marry her off and she was just a clerk at a hospital. So we got married and I slowed made many connection especially with old people so I can put CPF for them to get quota to start my food empire. I started the company under my Singapore mother in law name but I controlled all aspects as I stayed in the house while waiting to get our bto house and my Singapore passport. We had a child after 1 year which ensured that I will be in Singapore for a long time as a husband and caretaker.
I started my own Indian muslim food shop under mother-in-law at a hawker center which had the lowest rental cost. I got my wife and my another friend from india to work for me at the shop. I was toiling hard everyday and after few months breakeven then I started my empire building slowly by putting CPF for my wife’s old relatives and getting worker quota for the company. From one worker to 8 workers within 2 years with 3 shops. I was strict like my ex-boss with CCTVs all around the shop especially the cash counter area but I went down daily to ensure they did their work properly. Within 7 years, I had 8 shops at different locations with different shop names but controlled everything from home. I had 2 kids, Mercedes car and moved from a 4 room HDB flat to landed house as I made a average profit of about $20000 per month with each shop making around $2000 to $4000 profit monthly.
I brought over my family member and my village relatives to work for me here as blood is thicker than water. I hope my son will takeover the business and run it well soon. My Singapore dream came through and I hope it happens for others as well. Just know that hard work and making risk are part of becoming rich always.
The picture at the top is a random Indian man flipping prata and it is not a image of my shop as well FYI.
